The HDI’s mandate is to ensure that all development initiatives are consistent with the environmental and cultural values of the Haudenosaunee people. We are tasked to administer a regulatory framework that identifies, registers, and monitors development on Haudenosaunee Territory

What is Engagement
An established, early and ongoing engagement process is necessary to avoid treaty right infringements. Successful engagement means that HDI approves of every stage of the proposed development.
Jurisdiction
The HDI operates within the jurisdiction defined by the Mohawk Great Law of Peace and regulates development in areas that include, but are not limited to, those described in the Haldimand Proclamation, the 1701 Nanfan Treaty, and the Mitchell Map.
